Townsfolk

The town may be small, but the Townsfolk are certainly a colourful lot. The population swells and shrinks, depending on the season and how many cowboys or are passing through at any given time. A few of the more notable inhabitants are mentioned here...

Maddie Baker Maddie Rose Baker
Madeline Rose Baker never was one to follow the straight and narrow; always into trouble and somehow squirreling her way out of it. Her ma and pa arrived in town with her when the girl was just five years old, deciding to relocate after Maddie's baby brother and sister were killed in a Chicago fire. Her parents invested their savings in a small ranch (or large homestead, depending on how you look at it), and young Maddie grew up following around the ranch-hands that worked with her Pa. Now a full-grown woman, young Ms. Baker is as good a shot, and twice the rider, as any man that ever worked for her family.

Jack Donnelly "Black" Jack Donnelly
When Doctor Magnus' Miracle Medicine Show and Circus of Wonders passed through Lago in the spring of 1868, it left short one performer. The loss of the circus' strongman act was a blow for Doc Magnus, but a boon for the town. The charming Irishman proved to be an able metalworker, and was lured away by Col. McCormick and Maj. Duniway to serve as Lago's blacksmith. He has since become a prominent member in Lago, known as much for his eccentricities and love for children and animals as for his explosive temper and room-clearing brawls.

Violette Dupree Violette Dupree
When old Miss Sherwood died unexpectedly in her sleep one night, the town of Lago found itself short a schoolteacher. Surprisingly, a young woman of excellent education accepted the position. The more respectable citizens of Lago were delighted that such a cultured young woman would be instructing their children, for Miss Dupree is French by birth and had studied abroad before serving as a governess to a wealthy St. Louis family. Little is known about the new teacher just yet, but she seems to be a woman of good breeding and quiet respectability.

Eliza Gilbert Elizabeth "Eliza" Patrick Gilbert
Tall, blonde, and buxom, the owner of the Buffalo Rose Saloon is known for her good heart and infectious sense of humour. She's seen how not to run an establishment, and is out to prove that not only can a woman run a business, but run it well. After a colourful career as a dance-hall girl, Eliza scrimped and saved, eventually making her way to Lago where she's established a solid presence in the community.
