The laws in Lago township are simple and straightforward; We don't hold with thieves, card cheats, murderers, grave robbers, or con men. Can't rightly blame a man for shootin' someone in self-defense, but you'd better be able to prove it was such when the circuit judge comes 'round...

Russell Payne
Once a policeman in Baltimore, big city policing wasn't to his tastes. He served in the 2nd Maryland Infantry during the Civil War, after which he joined a cousin of his who was looking to head West. Things went bad, and the cousins had a falling out over a woman in Fort Pierre, leaving Russell dead-broke and cold-sober in Lago... and that's no way for any man to end up. Lago needed a Sheriff, and Russell needed a job, so things kind of happened naturally. Depending on whom you talk to, that's been either a blessing or a curse. |
